Koh Samui 2021 – 7 days on the island – Part 2

The 2nd part of my discovery of the island of Koh Samui. A walk to 4 tourist points of the island, with my comments.
Koh Samui - March 2021 - Part 2

An afternoon to discover part of the island by taxi.4 destinations, all very touristic, for a quick discovery of Koh Samui.
I used a taxi, but you can rent a motorbike obviously.
I’m not a fan of renting motorbikes on the islands.

Take it into account for renting a motorcycle:

– The state of the machine. The roads of the islands are often narrow and steep. Check the brakes!
– Do you have a motorcycle license which is valid in Thailand? You can in any case rent a motorcycle, but in case of problem your insurance will turn against you if you do not have a valid license and you’ll eventually pay the bill.
– Renters usually require your passport as a guarantee.
Never give it away. Without your passport you can do absolutely nothing (rent a room, take a plane) and it is a very effective way to put pressure on you in case of dispute.
– Thai roads are among the most dangerous in the world, especially for 2 wheels.

But up to you.

Points of view

The Big Buddha and Wat Plai Laem

4/5

The big Buddha and the temple of Wat Plai Laem are located in the north-east of the island.
Both sites are interesting with their colossal statues.

Wat Plai Laem is particularly colorful, and even though there is one temple in operation, it is mostly the temple of Instagramers.

Lad Koh – Viewpoint

3/5

This viewpoint is located along the road that runs along the east coast of the island.
A good opportunity to stop and enjoy an ice cream while discovering the panoramic view of Chaweng beach and the North-East of the island.

Namtok Tar Nim & Magic Garden

2/5

This “garden” is located in the center of the island.
Along the way, you can discover narrow and often steep roads that wind along green hills.
The site itself is disappointing: nothing authentic, only concrete.
Even if there is a special atmosphere, it is a décor, which in addition is not secure.

Grandfather’s Grandmother’s Rocks – Hin Ta Hin Yai

3/5

Another point of view.
This one is a little anecdotal since it is on a small promontory where rocks look like a phallus and a vagina.
I will especially remember a nice corner by the sea.
Note that it was the place with the most tourists during this afternoon.
