Covid 19 – Bangkok the 3rd Wave

In January, back from Koh Chang Island, I made a video about the 2nd wave of Covid that was hitting Bangkok. In March I was on the island of Koh Samui and on my return it was the beginnings of the 3rd wave. As soon as I leave Bangkok for a week, it's the brothel!

It is again Bangkok that is hit, but unlike the 2nd wave that began in the Southwest of the city, in the peripheral province of Samut Sakhon, this time it is the hypercenter of Bangkok that is hit.

The first outbreaks appeared in early April along Sukhumvit, in Thong Lor and Ekamai districts.
These neighborhoods are very popular with Clubers and pub lovers, it is the center of nightlife in Bangkok.
My favorite pub, which is in Ekamai, was announced in early April as an outbreak and immediately closed.
A number of other establishments in the two districts were also closed a week ago.

On 9 April, the Bangkok authorities ordered the closure of bars, pubs, massage parlours and a ban on the sale of alcohol in restaurants.
Supermarkets and other “non-recreational” shops remain open.
These constraints will be effective for at least 2 weeks.
Another 41 provinces will also apply these restrictions.

You could say that all this was actually predictable, but there are elements that make this new wave different:

Aggravating factors

  • This 3rd wave seems based on the English variant of the virus, which according to a Thai epidemiologist is 1.7 times more contagious than the previous variant.
  • The 3rd wave arrives just before Songkran, the Thai New Year, which every year causes significant flows of people going to their province of origin and this especially from Bangkok.

The Thai government has chosen not to ban these risky movements because, probably as in Europe, the Thai population is exhausted and the government perceives it.

On the other hand, I think that as soon as Songkran is over, the government risks implementing very severe restrictions if the infection figures are not good.

My personal situation

I currently limit my movements by imposing a flexible self-quarantine.
I don’t currently have any symptoms, but I’m going to wait until the end of next week to come out more regularly.

That’s it, it was not a very pleasant video, but we’re going to get there, we have to be patient and we need the vaccinations to arrive as quickly as possible.

Ciao!
